While arachnoid in appearance, the Crimson Weaver actually belongs to a sub-group of psychic parasites called the blood spiders. Like its fellow blood spider species the Red Tiger and the Scarlet Puppeteer, the Crimson Weaver first appears on its host as a small, red, spider-shaped mark and over time takes control of the host body through the spread of red, vein-like tendrils through the body. The trademark of the Crimson Weaver is the spread of these tendrils outside the host body, creating a paralyzing psychic web that ensnares other prey.

The basilisk and cockatrice are mortal enemies. The cockatrice relies on a diet of poisonous creatures like the basilisk to produce its paralyzing venom, and the basilisk is known to raid cockatrice nests. The venom of both animals is used in alchemy.

The enchanted candles on their skulls bind these poor souls into servitude of wizards and necromancers. The flame can’t be extinguished through normal means, but if it’s not replace before it burns out, the spirit goes free.
Unlike the Wick Wight, I’m not dead – just busy elsewhere. I’ll be trying to get back in the habit of posting, though I can’t promise a regularly weekly schedule.
